The Kiteboarding

The Kiteboarding in North Carolina’s Outer Banks is unparalleled.

The wind here is like a hair-dryer. It blows consistently and steady all throughout the year but the prime season is from April-October.

The wind blows primarily from the SW and the NE but can also come in from the SE and NW as well. Due to the shape of the island (you have the Sound on one side and the Ocean on the other), you can kite in any wind direction. This means maximizing the wind with a variety of sessions (waves & flat water).

ABout the Outer banks

The Outer Banks (OBX) are a small chain of barrier islands that boarder the mainland of North Carolina. The OBX boast beautiful sandy beaches and in addition to being one of the best kiteboarding destinations it is also well known for surfing and vacationing. We will stay in the Tri-Villages area on the Pamilco sound which means the water at our backyard will be shallow and calm, perfect for our flatwater sessions. We can easily walk across the island to the Ocean side in a matter a minutes to go for a surf or just to enjoy an ocean walk or swim.

The Wind:

May in the OBX is our favorite time of year to come kiteboarding here due to the predominantly SW winds that mean it is just perfect for kiteboarding on the sound side.

Meet our pro coach Nadja!

Nadja Bianchet will be hosting our Strut Kiteboarding NC camp.

Nadja grew up in a small town in the Southern part of Austria. Surrounded by the alps, beautiful mountains and lakes she always loved the outdoors. Nadja grew up skiing, snowboarding and dancing ballet.

After college, Nadja moved to California where she took her first kiteboarding lesson.  And she hasn’t stopped kiteboarding since. Over the past three years, Nadja has committed her life to the sport. She has been traveling around the world teaching kiteboarding, training and competing.

In, 2019 she won the Triple S open and has since been showcased in several Kiteboarding magazines. She is sponsored by Naish Kiteboarding and Mystic.

Nadja loves progressing in the sport and learning new disciplines, however her true passion is teaching and helping others enjoy kiteboarding as much as she does.

MEET ABBY VANDENBERG

Joing Nadja will be Abby V! Originally from the East Coast, Abby grew up on a lake spending every summer water skiing, wakeboarding and tow foiling. Her move to Santa Barbara, California to attend school sparked the beginning of her kiteboarding career and she has been chasing wind non-stop ever since.

Abby is a team rider for Airush Kiteboarding and AK Durable Supply Co. She has a ‘gear problem’ because she can’t choose one favorite discipline. Kitefoil freestyle, twin tip big air, and strapless wave riding are her favorites right now but her weapon of choice always depends on the conditions at hand. If you want to nerd out about foils and equipment while sipping a caipiroska by the pool in between sessions, she’s your girl.

Abby is passionate about getting more women into our sport and can’t wait to return to paradise in windy Brazil as a Strut Coach. A wind nomad of sorts, Abby currently lives in a camper van she converted herself (for optimum kite storage of course) and travels the West Coast from Baja California to Canada. Coaching kiteboarding and attending competitions along the way, she loves being a part of the wind sports community and lives for the stoke shared when a student becomes a friend and fellow shredder!

The supportive nature of both Sensi and Colleen really made it the ultimate. Knowing that there was a little group of us out on the water and that they were always kinda there was awesome. I love being able to meet new people and connect with kiting again.

Seriously, very impressed with the flow, the stoke, the professionalism with light-heartedness, and all the things. You guys ROCK!

I attended Sensi & Colleen’s first kite clinic in El Cuyo. What an epic fun week I had riding with these two inspiring pro kiteboarders and other amazing women from all over the world! I was very impressed by how well the ladies organized the event. From the travel logistics, accommodation, food, morning yoga, daily kite chats/instructions, time on the water, and exploring the surrounding areas they really did think of everything! Colleen and Sensi both took time to understand each of our goals and offered tips on and off the water that helped each of us progress. I hope I get to ride with these talented ladies again and definitely recommend all kite girls attend their retreat if you get the chance!

We look forward to seeing you in NC!
